Mischievous Mice

We are having a mice problem. There are mice in three different places in our house. Our dog is going wild. We had the exterminater come yesterday. He set a lot of traps. He found that the reason why the mice were getting in is because these screens that we have in the garage have a hole in them. He has to come back today to finish fixing the screens.

We have had a mouse problem, too! (Just one, thankfully.) Our little guy comes out at night only, usually. One night we heard some plastic rattling against our refrigerator, and we realized it was him trying to escape from the plastic mouse trap. We knew he was probably stuck in the glue, and we just felt awful. (He's so cute and little and defenseless.) We heard him squeaking pitifully, and we thought about going over to get him out of the trap and carry him outside. But then he might just get in again somehow. Mice carry a significant amount of germs, so our daughter's safety has to come before our compassion for the little creature. We decided to just let him suffer quickly. The pest exterminator said that the mouse would probably bury his nose in the glue and suffocate; he said they're pretty dumb that way. Pretty soon, we didn't hear noise at all, and we figured we'd have a little funeral the next day.

In the morning, I really didn't want to look at the trap and see a dead mouse lying there, but I picked up the courage and looked behind our trash cans...and he wasn't there! The glue had distinct foot markings in it, so that must have been him that we had heard, but apparently we're dealing with a smart mouse here. We still haven't seen him!
